Exploring Generative Design in CAD with Metal Casting at Texas State University

Summary: R. D. Childers, R. D. Childers, is exploring the integration of generative design in CAD with opportunities in metal casting. With a background as a lab assistant at the Texas State University Metal Casting Foundry in the 1980s, Childers suggests collaborating with the current group to create physical objects and Solidworks demonstrations. This could be an excellent topic for a Solidworks User Group meeting, as it would combine hands-on demonstrations with digital design presentations.
AI Summary

Is anyone working with generative design in CAD? I have a little background in metal casting and think there are some cool opportunities to work with the Metal Casting Foundry at Texas State University. I was a lab assistant in the Texas State University Metal casting foundry back in the 1980s. This is the group today. (I am not formally affiliated. https://www.txst.edu/technology/students-resources/studentorgs/afs.html Making something and then having a demo that was a physical object as well as the Solidworks Demonstration might make for a good Solidworks User Group meeting.

I just joined CTSUG online, so I am reading this discussion for the first time.

Did anything come of this idea? It would certainly be interesting to see what they are doing at Texas State and talk about ways we could coordinate efforts.

In my experience, generative design has not been widely embraced within most industries. It has great potential, but most designers haven't seen it in practice much at all. Therefore, they aren't putting it to practical use in their everyday jobs.
